FAQ / Guide

Can the goods (tow bar, wiring kit, accessories) also be shipped abroad?
Shipping to EU member states is possible. Shipping costs will increase according to the shipping cost table.

When can I expect delivery of my item?
After receipt of payment, delivery time is approximately 1-2 working days within Germany. Your goods will be delivered quickly and safely by GLS Germany courier service. Please note that GLS does not deliver on Saturdays.

Can the goods also be picked up in person and paid for in cash?
Weltmann KFZ Parts is an online-only retailer. For organizational reasons, personal collection of items is currently not possible.

I need more information about the offered items.
Write to us via email to clarify further questions about the items, request a PDF assembly manual in advance, or check the compatibility of tow bars and wiring kits for your vehicle model. Please include your inquiry and, if applicable, the key numbers of your vehicle from the registration certificate via the contact form or email.

Which wiring kit is right for my needs? 7-pin or 13-pin?
The basic difference between 7-pin and 13-pin wiring kits is the ability to transmit additional functions.

7-pin:
Transmits basic lighting functions to the trailer: lights, brake lights, indicators, and fog lights.

13-pin:
In addition to basic lighting functions, reverse lights, constant power supply, and charging lines can be transmitted.

Preliminary question: What do you want to tow or operate with your tow bar?
For a standard cargo trailer: a 7-pin wiring kit is sufficient.

Horse trailer: 13-pin wiring kit, e.g., for interior lighting in the trailer.

Caravan: 13-pin wiring kit, e.g., to operate a refrigerator or other electrical appliances.

Caravan with its own battery: 13-pin wiring kit, e.g., to charge the trailer’s battery using a charging line.

Bicycle carrier: 13-pin wiring kit, legally required to transmit reverse lights.

Does the installation of the tow bar need to be checked by TÜV/inspectors and entered into the vehicle documents?
If the tow bar already has an EC approval number, it has been tested according to European standards. It complies with EC directives, is TÜV-approved, and is allowed on the German market. Under certain conditions, it is no longer necessary for the tow bar to be inspected by an expert or registered in the vehicle documents after installation.

The following requirements must be met:

  • The tow bar must have EU approval (approval mark starting with e) (e.g., e11 94/20 3386 00).
All tow bars and tow bar kits sold by us have EU approval!
  • The installation manual must include a diagram with the necessary clearances according to Directive 94/20/EC Annex VII, Figure 30.
  • The vehicle must have EU approval (EC approval mark on the vehicle type plate).

For all tow hitches tested according to Directive 94/20/EC, an inspection by an expert is not required. Registering the tow hitch in the vehicle documents immediately after installation is also not necessary. Only if the vehicle documents need to be changed (e.g., due to a change of ownership) or if the towing capacities change, an entry of the tow hitch is required.

Why is a 12-volt power supply required for the trailer control module?

For an electronic control module to function, it requires a 12-volt constant power connection. Without this power supply, there will be malfunctions in the indicator and trailer lighting.

Why must the power supply be directly connected to the battery? Can another power source be used?

To ensure the hazard warning lights on the trailer work in the event of a breakdown and the parking lights function when the vehicle is parked, a connection to 12-volt constant power is essential.

Why does the wiring kit need to be activated or the vehicle coded if the installation manual requires it?

Many modern trailer control modules communicate with the vehicle’s control units. Functions such as bulb failure detection, parking sensor deactivation, trailer stabilization, and fog light deactivation only work once the towing vehicle has been "taught" that a tow bar has been installed. Therefore, it is necessary to activate trailer operation on the vehicle using manufacturer-specific diagnostic testers.

Why do the indicator lights on an LED testing device for trailer sockets blink simultaneously?

Many trailer control modules emit a test current to detect a trailer. As a result, trailer sockets cannot or can only partially be tested using LED-based trailer testing devices. For proper testing, use a light bar, trailer, or bicycle carrier with real incandescent lamp loads.

What does the term CFC® module mean?

CFC® stands for CAN-Frequency-Control, an electronic wiring kit by JAEGER automotive GmbH for advanced trailer control and function monitoring. It was developed for modern vehicles equipped with CAN-bus technology.

What does the term AFC mean?
The AFC technology is a trailer indicator monitoring system with an integrated control unit. It ensures the legally required monitoring of trailer indicator lights without additional optical (C2 indicator light) or acoustic (e.g., buzzer) control devices. If an indicator light on the towing vehicle fails, the indicator light on the dashboard flashes twice as fast. The same principle applies if an indicator light on the trailer fails.

What is the purpose of the C2 control?
The C2 control light is an additional green control light mounted in the driver’s field of vision on the dashboard. It ensures proper functioning and monitoring of trailer indicator lights. For some vehicle models, a slot for the C2 control light is pre-installed in the dashboard. It flashes a few times when the indicator is activated without a trailer and then stops.

What is a nose weight?
Nose weight refers to the load exerted by a trailer on the towing vehicle’s hitch. Manufacturers of trailers and towing vehicles specify maximum permissible nose weights. Nose weights for passenger vehicle trailers typically range between 50-100 kg, while those for agricultural or heavy machinery can be significantly higher.

Should the detachable tow bar be removed when not in use?
For insurance reasons, the driver is required to remove the detachable tow bar when not in use. In case of an accident where an unused tow bar increases the damage, the driver may be held liable, regardless of fault.

Why is a torque wrench necessary for the proper installation of the tow bar?
The operational safety of the tow bar significantly depends on proper installation and adherence to the manufacturer’s specified tightening forces. Torque wrenches ensure accurate application of these forces.

What happens to the packaging of delivered goods?
We prioritize ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION! All items are delivered in sturdy packaging made from recycled or recyclable cardboard/film.

Note on the updated Packaging Regulation V from January 1, 2009:

  • All product packaging, shipping materials, and filling materials are already licensed.
  • Proper collection is free of charge using designated collection containers.
